2006 TFA State is just around the corner. Watch this page closely for important announcements as well as the registration website on www.joyoftournaments.com. Judge preferences have been posted on the registration website. Schools may enter IE strikes and Mutual Preference Judging information on the Joy of Tournaments website. The deadline for strikes/MPJ is NOON on Wednesday, March 1.

As of this morning, Cindy only had orders for 150 shirts total. The money from shirt sales goes to fund the scholarships for our students. Please make your contribution to the fund. The list of schools eligible for participation in the 2006 TFA State Senate is now available. Legislation deadline for participation in the Senate was December 15. Your school must be on the list in order to participate. If there are problems, contact Paul Byrne immediately.

Hotel information for the TFA State Tournament is now available on this website. We know that a number of you may have picked up that information at the Coaches' Convention, but we know that a number of you have either misplaced it or missed it all together. Please understand that with most of the hotel properties they are willing to honor the quoted rate beginning on Wednesday night, March 1 and continue the rate through the Saturday night of the tournament. Please read the list carefully and begin to make your reservations as soon as possible. We will be posting and sending out a full newsletter in the next few weeks which details the state tournament events. That should help you in any additional planning that you have.

For any schools wishing to submit legislation for the 2006 TFA state tournament, in order to claim a free spot in the Senate, legislation is due on the 15th. The deadline is an absolute. Legislation will be mailed to the review committee on Friday morning, the 16th. No late submissions will be accepted. Make sure to follow the guidelines for legislation as per the TFA constitution and NFL manuals. Members of the review committee will be encouraged to choose legislation that is original (i.e., not a topic found in the qualifying legislation). The annual TFA business meeting was held last week in Galveston at the TSCA convention. Rhonda Bell (Kingwood) was elected as Vice President. Yolanda Silva (Burges) was elected as Secretary. Bill Schuetz (Gregory-Portland) was elected as Treasurer.

An additional amendment has been added to the docket (Mutual Preference) for the TFA business meeting. Because it was submitted after the thirty day deadline, it will require a 75% majority vote of the members present at the business meeting for passage.

Regions 2 & 4 will also be electing region representatives as well. Members are reminded that nominations for these officer positions may also be entertained from the floor at the business meeting. We welcome such nominations.

Two additional amendments (Grace periods, entry fees) have been presented for consideration at the TFA business meeting. Please understand that they were submitted after the 30 day deadline and will require a 3/4 majority vote for passage. The author of the amendments is aware of that and will present the amendments at an appropriate time on the agenda.

We would remind all TFA members planning to attend the meetings that they should bring copies of the amendments with them to the meetings. A very limited number will be made available to the membership present.

There is an additional amendment (Extemp CX) that will be added to the TFA business meeting agenda. That amendment may now be found on this website. The amendment was submitted prior to the 30 days necessary for it to require the minimum standard of voting for passage. The reason for the late notification of members and posting on the website was due to a need to check whether or not the submitting author was a member in good standing of the organization. That membership has been assured and verified.

An additional amendment (Ombudsman) has been added to the agenda for the TFA business meeting. Since its submission does meet the one month deadline prior to the meeting, it will require the two thirds majority to pass.

The proposed amendments that will be discussed at the business meeting are now posted on the website. (See the Convention page.) These amendments will only need a two-thirds majority vote to pass at the business meeting. Other amendments proposed at the business meeting will require a three-fourths vote to pass.

If you thought that you had proposed an amendment and it did not appear on this list, please contact David Huston, TFA Secretary, immediately. His contact information can be found in the section under Officers.

Remember also that if you have an interest in running for TFA office, please contact members of the nominating committee as soon as possible. Currently, the following persons are planning to run for office:

Members wishing to submit proposed amendments to the TFA Standing Rules and/or Constitution may do so by August 27. The amendments will then be distributed to the membership by September 1. Any amendment submitted after that time may be presented at the TFA Business Meetings, but will require a 75% vote of the membership present for passage.
